2013 Sun Peaks Family Cup

2013 Kookaburra Cross Country Cup

 

The Sun Peaks Family Cup event is an annual event conducted by the Australian Sun Peaks Family Cup Committee in association with our Canadian partners from Sun Peaks Resort and Tourism Sun Peaks.

The Australian Committee is headed by Andrew Wenham & Steve Cooper, along with Bec Masterton and Wendy Pinkerton. Our Canadian partners include Colin Brost, Christopher Nicolson & Anne Haight.

In 2013, Australian Olympic athletes Ben Sim (Nordic) and Ramone Cooper (Moguls), both of whom competed for Australia during the 2010 Winter Games, will be joining the Interschools Australia Committee at the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup – All Nations Celebration.

The Sun Peaks Family Cup Event Week has run for the last five years, and following the continued success in 2012, the rebranded Sun Peaks Family Cup - All-Nations Celebrations has increased in scope for 2013. The new, extended event will be held on January 2nd – 16th, 2013.

The two week celebration's consists of a variety of family focused activities, events and all ability competitions including the signature race "The Sun Peaks Family Cup". The Cup is a family style Snowsports event open to any individual, family or team from any Country. The youngest competitor to date was 2yrs and the oldest (declared age) was 71yrs. The event is conducted on a


modified Dual GS type course and is suitable for all standards of competitor.

Awards are presented to all competitors who place in the top three of their respective division along with awards for the top three placing in the smallest time difference between two eligible timed runs on the course. Each competitor is allowed one run on each of the Blue and Red Courses which comprise approx 26 gates per course.

With over 100 competitors in 2012 from five Countries (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong & Singapore) Australia won the coveted Sun Peaks Family Cup Country Award closely followed by Canada and New Zealand.

Apart from the Snowsports event there are many other activities planned for the 2013 event week, including:

• The Cross Country Kookaburra Cup and Tubing party on Sunday 6th
• The Childrens Obstacle Course on Wednesday 9th.
• The Skating Party on Thursday 10th.
• The High Roller Mountain Marathon followed by the Welcome Cocktail Party on Friday 11th.
• The Sun Peaks family Cup on Saturday 12th.
• The Tubing Party on Sunday 13th.
